Sources of Support
The Edward A. Myerberg Senior Center receives federal and state funds through the Baltimore Commission on Aging and Retirement Education. It also receives support from THE ASSOCIATED: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore. A significant portion of the Center's operating budget is derived from its own fundraising activities.
The Center's quality programs and services are sponsored by individuals, foundations, community organizations, corporations, and government agencies. The Center is a non-profit, charitable organization and all contributions are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. In order for the Center to sustain its extensive curriculum and comprehensive support services, various fundraising opportunities have been established:
- "Friends" Annual Campaign: helps the Center meet its ongoing operational expenses. It is a vehicle by which we can guarantee that we remain a permanent fixture in our northwest Baltimore community.
- Wall Plaques: "Simcha" and Memorial plaques are reasonably priced.
- Contribution Cards - beautiful all occasion gift cards which are reasonably priced and can be sent by the Center or purchased and sent by you.
- Annual Fundraising Event: The Center hosts one large celebrity fundraising event, usually in the spring. Past events have featured Judith Voirst, Mitch Albom, Dr. Ruth Westheimer, Hugh Downs, Joel Siegel, Tova Feldshuh, David Baldacci, Bill Geist, Henry Winkler and Olympia Dukakis. The purchasing of tickets and the sponsorship of these events help to offset the Center's operating expenses.
- Scholarship Funds: The Herman & Celia Lecht and The Alvin Mintzes' Funds provide scholarships to seniors who may not otherwise be able to afford classes or membership.
- Library: contributions are used to help stock the library with the most recent titles. A bookplate commemorating a gift will be placed in the book(s) purchased.
